Veteran U.S. Education and Business Executive to Lead Organization that Operates France’s INSEEC Group and International University of Monaco

08/04/2013 — SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — (BUSINESS WIRE)

Career Education Corporation (CEC) (NASDAQ: CECO), a global provider of postsecondary education programs and services – whose European schools include the Paris-based INSEEC Group and the International University of Monaco – today named veteran education and business leader Scott Steffey its President and Chief Executive Officer.

Steffey’s career includes leadership roles spanning the education spectrum as well as senior posts at both publicly- and privately-held businesses. He was previously Chief Operating Officer of Strayer Education, Inc., and Vice Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY), both in the United States.

During his tenure as the senior operating officer, SUNY was the largest non-profit, unified system of postsecondary education in the United States – comprised of 64 degree-granting campuses, with 400,000 students, several vocational centers, and 75,000 faculty and administrators. He helped lead a transformation of the SUNY system, resulting in greater academic quality and achievement at its campuses, significant enrollment growth, revenue growth, expense containment, and a large capital re-investment in its campus infrastructure.

As Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Strayer Education, Inc., Steffey was a hands-on force in driving operational excellence and efficiency, academic integrity and accountability, innovative online learning and prudent enrollment growth. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Strayer University.

Paris-based INSEEC Group of schools includes elite “Grande Ecole” and campuses in Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon and Chambéry, France. The business-focused programs of INSEEC include master’s degrees and programs in business administration, concentrations in marketing research, luxury marketing, communications, advertising, tourism, and food and wine marketing. Some specialties are developed in London and Chicago.

“The INSEEC Group and International University of Monaco (IUM) are known for their academic excellence and attract students from around the world,” Steffey said. “We must continue to foster INSEEC and the quality education programs that have distinguished them in Europe.”

Catherine Lespine continues to serve as General Manager of the INSEEC Group and IUM. In 2011, the French Minister of National Education named Lespine “Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes académiques,” an order of chivalry for academics, which honors outstanding devotion and accomplishment in the areas of teaching and research.

Steffey added: “I look forward to working with and supporting Catherine and her efforts to continue delivering high academic programs throughout Western Europe.”

Since 1975, the INSEEC Group has been developing innovative higher education programs, from bachelor to DBA degrees, in a wide range of areas. Its commitment has been to design programs adapted to ease access to the job market for its alumni.
