07/09/2012 — NEW YORK — (BUSINESS WIRE)

Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW):

August 2012 Index Highlights:

  • The Monster Employment Index Europe is down by one percent in August, marking the first decline since April 2010
  • Germany (up seven percent) is the only large country to report year-over-year growth in August, registering single digit growth for the first time in 25 months
  • With the exception of the United Kingdom, all other countries are showing year-over-year decline growth with the Netherlands (down 16 percent) and France (down 13 percent) registering double digit declines
  • Environment, architecture and urbanism continues to lead all industries by measure of annual growth for the fourth consecutive month, while Management and consulting (down six percent) registers the sharpest annual decline
  • Of all occupational groups, Plant and machine operators and assemblers and Technicians and associate professionals register the strongest increase in demand with matched rates of annual growth (both up three percent)

The Monster Employment Index Europe is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity based on a real-time review of millions of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career web sites and online job listings across Europe. The Index does not reflect the trend of any one advertiser or source, but is an aggregate measure of the change in job listings across the industry.

“As the Index registers its first decline since April 2010, it is clear we remain in an uncertain climate where even the previous stalwart growth of Germany is seeing moderated online recruitment trajectory in response to reduced business and consumer confidence across Europe,” commented Alan Townsend, Vice President of Sales Readiness and Business Operations for Monster Europe. “However, it is not all bad news as demand for more than half of all industries in the Index have seen upticks in online hiring including education and telecommunication.”
