Biomet Announces Launch of a Second Generation Stemless Shoulder at SECEC 2012: The Comprehensive Nano Shoulder*

Croatia, Europe, North America, United States

21/09/2012 — WARSAW, Ind. — (BUSINESS WIRE)

Biomet, Inc., a global leader in the manufacture of orthopaedic and biotechnology products, announces the European launch of a new stemless shoulder product, the Comprehensive Nano shoulder, featured at the 2012 SECEC (Société Européenne pour la Chirurgie de l’Epaule et du Coude/European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow) Annual Congress, September 19-22 in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The ComprehensiveNano shoulder was developed based on the clinical heritage of the Biomet T.E.S.S. stemless shoulder*, which has been clinically successful since its launch in Europe in 2004.1-5 The bone conserving shoulder design allows the surgeon to fit the implant to each individual patient by reproducing native humeral head version and inclination. The Comprehensive Nano shoulder is compatible with all configurations of the Comprehensive shoulder system, and is the first stemless device to provide surgeons with intra-operative flexibility to easily convert from a Comprehensive Nano hemi-arthroplasty to a reverse or total shoulder arthroplasty using the same core instruments and without removal of the well-fixed humeral component.

Renaat Vermeulen, President of Biomet EMEA, stated, “The Comprehensive Nano shoulder allows Biomet to build on the strong position we have established in stemless shoulder arthroplasty with the T.E.S.S. shoulder, the pioneering design in Europe. The Comprehensive Nano shoulder will provide surgeons and patients with a truly second generation stemless shoulder with an unmatched clinical heritage and intra-operative flexibility to help surgeons deliver the optimal treatment to each patient.”

“Humeral replacement with a stemless implant preserves bone stock, simplifies the surgical technique, and allows an easy implantation,” said J. Teissier, Clinique Saint Jean, Montpellier, France.
