Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair: Facilitating Overseas Purchasing Boom in China

Asia Pacific, China

02/06/2015 — YIWU, China — (BUSINESS WIRE)

The fourth Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair, recognized by the United Nations and the World Bank as the largest small commodities wholesale market in the world, is going to be held on 4th-7th June, 2015 at the Yiwu International Expo Centre in the Eastern coastal province of Zhejiang, one of the richest provinces in China and an economic centre which actively promotes and focuses on entrepreneurship and small businesses.

This year the fair will cover an area of 50,000 square meters and provide 2,000 booths. Over 1,200 exhibitors are expected to participate. In the past, the fair has resulted in the sale of over 2 million kinds of small commodities from more than 100 countries. Every year, the fair welcomes buyers from across the world and receives registration applications from more than 100 countries annually on average. The fair has provided a foundation for the import and overseas purchasing boom in China and will continue to do so.

Along with the economic rise of Zhejiang, and China in general, a significant proportion of the Chinese population has entered the middle and upper middle class segments of society. More than 75% of China’s urban population is expected to stay at the middle and upper middle class strata by 2022. This significant rise in the middle and upper middle class population with higher disposable incomes has led to a larger demand for foreign commodities. This dynamic trend towards a growing middle class population has resulted in an evolution of consumers who are no longer satisfied with local products and demand foreign goods that are of better quality and offer more varieties of goods to the buyers.

The Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair aims to cater to this increasing demand for foreign goods in China by connecting foreign exporters with local importers. The exhibition is a platform for international businesses to showcase their commodities and services within the scope of household articles, food and beverages, art crafts and ornaments, garments and accessories, cross-border E-commerce service providers and international trade service providers.
