Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair: A New Attempt in Import Trade

Asia Pacific, China

22/05/2015 — YIWU, China — (BUSINESS WIRE)

The fourth Yiwu Imported Commodities Fair is scheduled to run at the Yiwu International Expo Centre on 4th-7th June, 2015. Covering an area of 5,000 square meters, the fair has the capacity to cater to 2,000 booths.

The fair aims to facilitate the increasing import into China by providing sellers from all across the world access to connect with buyers (local and foreign) in the Zhejiang Province of China. Zhejiang is an economic powerhouse and a center for International Trade. The fair is considered to be the world’s largest in its category (import fair for small commodities), which is endorsed by the United Nations and the World Bank. In the past three years, the fair has resulted in the sale of over 2 million types of small commodities from over 100 countries.

China has established its presence as a dominant economic powerhouse by focusing on high-growth investments in its manufacturing sector in order to become one of the leading exporting nations in the world. This hyper-growth period has led to the rise of a large middle-class Chinese population which demands an influx of foreign goods which are superior in quality and offer more options for the consumers.

China’s growing demand for imported goods is supported by a series of Governmental, economic and public policies. For example, President Xi Jingping of China is inviting countries from across the world to participate in the visionary “One Belt, One Road” initiative, which, inspired by the Silk Road, will link China to Europe through a singular route in order to promote regional connectivity and minimize trade barriers.

Over the next five years, China will promote trade and economic growth in all Asia by importing more than US$10 trillion worth of goods. President Xi Jingping is also focusing on radical public policy changes which will aim to shift economic power from the hands of Governments and private corporate institutions into the hands of individual households. This will lead to a radical shift in purchasing power and give rise to a larger demand for commodities in China.
